Critically this book do have some caveats, for instance books ending is little bit abrupt, maybe that's because author wants to have a go at second book, but the ending, "as is" is not satisfactory. Book does give readers something to think about like, how moments of uncontrolled desires could destroy your better part of future.
On concluding notes, it really is an interesting book. There are lots of things that can be learned from this book, and from writing point of view this is a great book. I really liked authors writing style, the way he describe things... and I would definitely wait for second part if it ever came along. Nice book and surely 4 out of 5 star material.

Sleeping in the Attic Dane Kemp Books Reviews
Sleeping in the Attic - So Much Potential
From the title of this novel, I expected it to center on the author's (character's?) experiences of being locked in an attic. I imagined her longing to be released, filled with terror and abandonment. On the contrary, the author said that she felt safer in her attic room. It was never explained how or why her room was in the attic, or how long she lived in the attic. I would also like to point out that the attic has such a small amount of attention in the book, I am confused at the title.
I believe that every human being has a story to tell, and that it is an important one. With this book, I wasn't quite sure exactly what the author wanted us to understand about Annie or her life. It appeared that she was disliked by her parents and almost all of her siblings, but there wasn't enough of an explanation as to why. There are so many abused children in families that are singled out, so in theory it is believable, but I would like to understand what circumstances she thought caused this intense dislike. She also stated several times early in the book that life was not going to be easy for her. This was a red flag to me that she was a victim. So my question is, when did she become a victim? She was a victim to her parents, of course, but when did it start? Was she victimized at school? I believe these are important questions that would have added more substance to 'Sleeping in the Attic'.
At times it sounded like Annie was a petulant child. Annie described events in a way that didn't make sense chronologically. She described a newborn baby with physical strength that I've never seen. Perhaps an editor could have helped the author pick and choose sentences and descriptions that would have shaped the events with a clearer picture.
Basically, I felt like I was reading a life story. The author took us down a troubled road to a point where Annie made some decisions that would make her happy regardless of what anyone else might think or say about her. I was happy for her, and looked forward to finding out about her success, when suddenly the book just ended. My mouth literally dropped open. I checked and rechecked to see if I had made a mistake.
As I said before, this book has a lot of potential, and with a good editor, it could be a four star book. This author has a story to tell, it just needs to be more cohesive and descriptive.
I received this book for free through Bookplex and was interested in reading this book because it is set during a time period where being a woman was extremely hard, especially if your mother was against you. Plus, the summary was intriguing enough to make me want to read it. I really wanted to find out why Annie was shunned by her mother and how that shaped her life. Obviously it had some effect on her, since she went off and lived her life but didn't understand why her mother hated her until after she died.
The book started really promising. The very first sentence, "How could she watch as I grabbed for my baby boy, while crying hysterically?" drew me into the story. I wanted to know who she was talking about and what happened to the baby. I had an idea that she was talking about her mother -since the summary tells us the book is about their relationship, or lack thereof - but I still wanted to know what happened. I had the same question as Annie, what motivates someone to stand by and just watch that happen?
However, the book didn't answer that question for me. While it draws you in at the beginning, it doesn't have much staying power the further along you read. It seemed like it was the bare bones of a story. The first draft skeleton. There were glimpses of interesting plot developments but the book primarily stayed on the surface. It didn't delve deeper into the different points. It felt like the author had written some of the major points of the story but forgot to go back and fill it in with specific details. There were a lot of places that I thought could be fleshed out more to keep the reader engaged and to explain why Annie reacts to things the way she does.
I think if the book would go through a few more drafts, it would be more promising. It ended very abruptly, leaving me with more questions than I started with.
